Alongside

A random episode of Grey’s Anatomy about giving patients the choice to die brings me to tears.

Suicidal feelings can be so powerful. Even while we sit in profound vulnerability and lean away from connection. I have had clients beg me to say it was ok to commit suicide. I feel that pain, and yet withhold the agreement. Anxiety and despair do not bring me to agreement. I stand along side, holding out my hand with hope for the future.
